Santa killer suspect death ruled suicide

December 30, 2008 |  4:43 pm

The Los Angeles County coroner's office completed the autopsy on Bruce Jeffrey Pardo today and officially ruled his death a suicide.

Pardo had an exit wound at the top of his head, which lead investigators to believe he had put the gun into his mouth to kill himself, said Lt. Fred Corral of the coroner's investigations division.

In addition to the gunshot wound, Pardo had second- and third-degree burns on his arms and wrist, officials said.

"He had burns … but those were not what caused his death," Corral said. "What we're using here, as far as mode of death, is a suicide gunshot wound to the head."

Blood and urine were drawn from the body to complete a toxicology report to determine whether Pardo had any drugs or alcohol in his system when he died, Corral said. Those tests are expected to take about six weeks to complete, he said.
