Ride reservations come to Magic Mountain

December 3, 2008 | 10:39 am

Q-Bot virtual amusement park queuing system

Six Flags Magic Mountain will add a computerized ride reservation system in 2009 designed to cut wait times — for a price.

The Q-Bot virtual queuing system, designed by a British company called Lo-Q, allows visitors to reserve a place in line without actually having to wait in line. The virtual wait time is determined by the actual wait time when the reservation is made.

Testing is set to begin this month at the Valencia amusement park, with an official debut scheduled after the first of the year.

I think it's a great idea; however, I think they should also incorporate a fast pass system for free (price of a ticket). This would allow everyone the opportunity to reserve a spot in line without having to stand there all day. I would also like to see them design better waiting areas. More drinking fountains while in line. A restroom at each ride's entrance. The entire line covered to get people out of the sun. Maybe a few benches spaced throughout the lines. TV's placed throughout giving you something to do while standing in line. Design the wait to be an experience. Having someone stand in line for an hour without some sort of entertainment is a poor design. Give people old pictures of magic mountain to look at, or newspaper front pages from early years at magic mountain. Give people something to talk about. Maybe even design three or four waiting areas in a similar area circling a ampitheatre or stage so that people could be watching a show while waiting in line. The worst part of waiting in line is having to entertain the little kids.
