Police identify teen killed in South Gate bus stop crash

December 2, 2008 |  7:44 am

Police officials today identified the 14-year-old boy who was killed in South Gate when a van jumped a curb and slammed into a bus shelter.

Louis Salazar was pronounced dead Monday at St. Francis Hospital in Lynwood after the 3:30 p.m. accident, said Lt. Cheryl MacWillie of the Los Angeles County coroner’s office. The crash occurred on Firestone Boulevard at Otis Street just after classes let out for the day at South Gate Middle School, across the street from the crowded bus stop, South Gate police said.

Police were questioning the driver of the van, whom they identified as Eduardo Rojo, 18, of South Gate, and were searching for his passenger, who witnesses said leaped out of the van after the crash and ran up Otis Street.
