Ex-speaker Nunez's son arrested on suspicion of murder

9:27 PM | December 2, 2008

The 19-year-old son of former California Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez was arrested in Sacramento County tonight in connection with the stabbing death of a 22-year college student in San Diego, police said.

San Diego Homicide Capt. Jim Collins said Esteban Nunez was arrested along with three other men, all 19. All three suspects were taken to San Diego where they were jailed. Each faces one count of murder and three counts of assault, officials said.

Collins said Luis Santos, 22, was stabbed to death in a brawl at a party near San Diego State University on Oct. 4.

Reached at home, Fabian Nunez declined to comment on the case.

Comments

Rather than get in a food fight commentary that is too easy to accuse and point the finger, I would say that this article is your typical political-tabloid journalism with a moral cherry top.

There are at least 1,000 more important things to worry about than "celebrity" gossip.

Sad how some of you are quick to judge people based on allegations while pretending to be the champion Christians. Let thou who has not sinned throw the first rock. The truth is the kid hasn’t even been convicted. Don’t we live in America? Aren’t you Americans? What happened to innocent until proven guilty? It’s easier to judge and convict this kid in your own mind because he’s the son of a democrat, that’s sad. Come on let’s be adults. You guys want to pick on the kid because you lost the national election huh? Get over it. He’s a kid and until proven otherwise he is innocent, common sense should tell you that much. Even if he is guilty what does that have anything to do with party affiliations? People are caught doing illegal things everyday. That includes republicans. It is really ignorant to assert that one political party is naturally more criminal than the other. It’s also unfortunate you guys believe that there is an evil scheme or conspiracy by the L.A times to protect him or the Mayor. Get off CSI.

Nunez sr in my opinion lacks a basic moral compass in some respects. I guess the trait was passed onto the children...who knows, I'm sick of politicians and that may be where this is coming from too...

I wonder how long it will take the Times to white wash this Nunez article--just like they got rid of the negative press surrounding L.A.'s Mayor Villalagroisa. Gee, I wonder what happened to THAT article, it well, sort of just bit the dust?
the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. L.A.'s citizens are paying the price for really bad government by electing people who want to pad their pensions and rename highways while the rest of us unduly suffer.

Gee, the Time's doesn't say what party former California Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez is. I wonder what it could be?
