A disabled military armored vehicle is causing a massive traffic jam on the 101 Freeway

A disabled military armored vehicle is causing a massive traffic jam on the 101 Freeway during the afternoon rush hour.

The U.S. Army vehicle began slipping off a transport truck shortly after noon, near the Laurel Canyon Boulevard offramp.

The transport driver pulled over to the shoulder but realized he would need additional equipment to right the armored vehicle, said California Highway Patrol Officer Jose Nunez.

Eastbound motorists were slowing to look at the slipping vehicle, snarling the roadway for homeward-bound commuters.

Nunez did not know how long it would take to resolve the situation.
