Would you pay $32 to see a movie in Pasadena?

7:39 AM | November 21, 2008

How much will popcorn cost if the ticket sets you back $22? A scary thought

Yes, the new generation of upscale movie theaters is coming to Pasadena. But in this economy, you have to wonder whether even the San Marino set will pay $22 to $32 for a movie (and we assume the popcorn isn't cheap either). Details in the Star-News:

Village Roadshow Gold Class Cinemas plans to open a new six-screen deluxe complex in December, 2009, on the site of Laemmle's One Colorado multi-screen theaters. The Laemmle theaters, which moved in several years ago when AMC moved out, closed about two weeks ago after losing the lease, One Colorado spokesman Robin Faulk said. Laemmle's Playhouse District theaters are unaffected. The Gold Class theater will be Southern California's first. "It's the mothership landing in the entertainment capital," joked Rob Goldberg, chief operating officer of Gold Class Cinemas.

Wondering about the fate of the old Rialto theater in South Pasadena? Here's the latest.

I wouldn't pay $32 to see a movie with the Queen of England (or anyone else, for that matter). Hasn't anyone noticed? We' re up against really serious financial problems in this country. Not only that, what movie could possibly be worth $32?

I'm glad the Episcopal Church, or at least half of it, is moving forward not backwards towards acceptance and growth.

- Righteous???, on the church's move toward ending a de facto ban on the ordination of gay bishops and sanctioning marriage blessings for same-sex couples
