Watching for rain in the Valley burn areas

3:37 PM | November 1, 2008

Misty morning

This is the Southern California pattern. First the wildfires, then the rains and mudslides. The National Weather Service this afternoon issued some flood-related warnings for burn areas in the San Fernando Valley and Ventura County areas. Last month's fires burned through a large swath of hillside in and around Lake View Terrace as well as Porter Ranch and Chatsworth.

The NWS bulletins with details after the jump.

The rains caused some power outrages in the Santa Clarita Valley but seemed to be hit and miss. From City News Service:

In Los Angeles, rain fell at the Civic Center at 9:30, and a heavy downpour was reported in Pasadena. Winds heavy enough to trigger warnings from the California Highway Patrol raked the Golden State (5) and Antelope Valley (14) freeways in the Santa Clarita and Newhall Pass areas. At 10 a.m., the Weather Service radar showed a continued band of showers moving ashore in Ventura County, brushing the San Fernando Valley as they moved to the Antelope Valley. The Weather Service said the storms include lightning and heavy downpours, with rainfall rates of one inch per hour possible. The storms may move to the east, into Los Angeles, during the day.
