Toddler gets out of crib, walks nearly a mile before being hit by car
Here's a tragedy that has shaken the Victorville area and has investigators trying to figure out how it happened. From the Victor Valley Daily Press:
A 2-year-old child was struck and killed by a car after the toddler crawled out of his crib and walked for nearly a mile onto a busy road early Saturday morning, sheriff's officials said. Kotie Cash Robinson-Peay was spotted by a passing motorist as the child walked west in the eastbound lanes of Bear Valley Road near Shooting Star Drive just west of the Victor Valley Mall, San Bernardino County Sheriff's Victorville station officials said. The witness immediately turned around to try to warn oncoming traffic about the child in the roadway when a 2007 Toyota Scion struck the child, throwing Robinson-Peay nearly 70 feet, authorities said.
Numerous readers posted comments with their stories of young kids who somehow got out of their cribs to roam -- none ending like this. Said one: "A sad situation. One of my sons got out at night through a doggie door, but it only led to the fenced back yard. I feel for the family and I feel for the driver." Another: "My two year old climbed on the dryer to open the garage door and got as far as next door. She wanted to 'go with daddy' to work."

Ever heard of locks! I can't believe someone would be so irresponsible as to not lock their doors with a toddler in the house. God help you.

Toddlers can unlock doors. Back in the early 70's, my brother pulled a chair to the door and undid the chain as well as the other two locks. He was found by a neighbor in the middle of a busy street nearby. He was going to the store to buy gum. There wass none in the drawer in the china cabinet.
My poor mother had slept through the whole thing, until the neighbor came to the door.

Anyone who has a negative comment to make here should be ashamed of themselves. No one has the right to be judge and jury over the parents of this poor child. And the God that I know and love will be there for them and love them unconditionally.

for those of you who blame this on the parents, you should all be ashamed. and actually, may god be with you instead. no one ever thinks that something like this would ever happen. especially to a kid who is only 2 years old. sure more could have been done to prevent this, BUT, im sure each and everyone of you guys have made mistakes and for some, probably never learned from them. its sad that it took a childs life to rethink of the things to do around the house to insure that your kids are safe. but this is honestly, in my opinion, and probably in many of others, a tragic horrible ACCIDENT. it could have happened to you, so dont go pointing your fingers till you make sure your hands are clean. i send my condolences to the family, and friends, of that little boy.
