Little sugar skulls and skeleton smiles

November 1, 2008 |  3:40 pm
Skull_2 Good afternoon, readers.

If the weather clears up (it's raining here, downtown) -- or even if it doesn't, you may want to celebrate the Dia de los Muertos holiday today with friends from both sides of the grave at Hollywood Forever Cemetery.

By the way, some of the cemetery's more luminous denizens are featured in The Guide's Hollywood Terror Tour -- an interactive map showing the L.A. burial spots of the most famous (and infamous) horror stars and directors known to mankind. Bela, Lon, Todd, Vincent, Elsa. ... You know them all.

But back to Day of the Dead festivities. The Hollywood Forever entry fee is $5, and skeleton garb (not a Halloween costume) is encouraged. The festival, which runs until 11 p.m., offers a ceremonial holiday altar at which to honor those passed. Altar setup starts at 6:30 p.m.

The Guide offers a full list of Day of the Dead events around town right here.

Enjoy yourself, as they say. It's later than you think.
