Fancy digs for Pasadena's cat population

6:19 PM | November 19, 2008

Cat of the week It's a shelter for cats. But it's so much more than that. Pasadena's new "communal cattery" feels a little like the city itself, complete with bookshelves (no books from Vroman's?). The Pasadena Star-News writes about the debut:

The Pasadena Humane Society's new cat shelter, created by combining two large trailers, includes a "communal cattery" -- a spacious enclosed area that volunteers have outfitted with IKEA furnishings. The room, which has bookshelves, rugs and mirrors, is the social center of the cattery, a place where up to five cats at a time can play together, take naps on brightly colored rugs, and climb bookshelves. It's purr-fect, guests declared Tuesday. The cattery also has 42 additional cages, an isolation ward for sick cats and an adoption area.

Who is that cat? Garfield is Pasadena's pet of the week. "Garfield is a very friendly, outgoing cat. He is very talkative and loves attention. Garfield is already neutered and available for adoption."

Overheard
I was just forced to take my first furlough day last week because the City claims it has no money. Now...it's okay for the City to foot the bill for a public memorial for Michael Jackson?
