Day after deadly shooting, shoppers return to Toys R Us

November 29, 2008 | 10:45 am

Shoppers were back at the Palm Desert Toys R Us a day after the deadly shooting that made national headlines. The Times' Michelle Maltais checked out the scene and filed this dispatch:

The police tape is down, and the parking lot dotted with several cars. The store has a handful of customers. Outside is an armed security guard, with another guard inside. Sales associates are pleasant but wary, eyeballing customers up and down as they smile and greet them. Some salespeople have been brought in from other stores. A police car passed through the parking lot. Meanwhile, two older customers left with a cart full of goodies. A kid scampered through the aisles.

The Desert Sun has more details, including the names of the two men slain.
