A divided Pasadena opposed Proposition 8
Proposition 8, the ballot measure that banned gay marriage, got a thumbs down from Pasadena voters, according to data from the Star-News. But the city was divided, with predominately black sections of the city favoring it. And how about the surrounding area? "Pasadena's neighbor cities of Sierra Madre and South Pasadena strongly voted against Proposition 8. But voters in Arcadia, Duarte, San Marino, San Gabriel and Rosemead helped pass it." Details on the paper's analysis:
Fifty-seven percent of voters in the city rejected the same-sex marriage ban. But they also favored a half-cent sales tax to improve transportation countywide and sided against Pasadena Mayor Bill Bogaard and most of the San Gabriel Valley's political leaders who railed against Measure R for short-changing funding for the Gold Line. An analysis of local voting results found Pasadenans who went to the polls Tuesday largely mirrored county, state and national trends by voting in big numbers for Barak Obama and Measure R and rejecting nearly all of the defeated state propositions.

Why is it that the liberal progressive far left only approves of democracy when a vote foes their way? The citizens of California passed Prop. 8 and the far left will not accept the will of the people. Their loony protests and ACLU prompted lawsuit reveals without question their hatred for our democratic government. Their actions are met with wonder by the rational citizenship what makes up most of this nation. Their loony attempts to once again overthrow the will of "We the People" will fail. What would they think of the supporters of John McCain rose up in protest and filed a lawsuit with the US supreme court because we did not like the outcome of the presidential vote? Would they not think of them as idiots? Do I need to spell out here who the idiots are?

Lets get off this subject already, I believe the peoples vote is in.

I am half of one of three gay couples on my suburban Pasadena street. I am appalled that on the very day that my black neighbors achieved a milestone, they voted to deprive their gay neighbors of their civil rights. I would expect that people who have experienced discrimination first hand would have more empathy for other stigmatized groups. Looks like I was wrong. Yet please explain to me why 78% of Jews in the Los Angeles area voted in support of gay marriage--almost a complete reversal of the black vote.
It seems as though some groups deal with their oppression differently than other groups. Some want to lift others up, some apparently do not.

Elections DO NOT works in case of choices against minorities. People can vote, but if the proposition aim against a minority, the vote of the majority will always prevail! That is why there is a Constitution! To protect that. If the citizens were asked to take the turbants off the Indians, Indians would loose, because in low numbers. Does it make it right? When citizens were asked to let blacks out of segregations, the majority (whites) had no problem saying no. Does thsat make it right? Don't say "WE THE PEOPLE" if then you discriminate! "We the people" can vote for any matter, but minorities matters, and the majority decides. But we CANNOT vote for people rights, because the minorities will always get punished!

Sorry Ted, J, and Bigwolf, but this subject is not over just because you're tired of hearing about it. And Ted, using the processes we have in place to work for change in America hardly reveals a hatred for democracy. If anything, those of you trying to silence the voices of the minority are the ones who are unAmerican. One of the great things about America is that we are free to voice our opinions. Sorry if that annoys you.
And Ted, your analogy is flawed. Voting for President is not equivalent to voting to restrict the civil rights of a minority group. Besides, I seem to remember the sort of action you describe happening in 2000, only it wasn't the "liberal progressive far left" protesting the outcome of the vote: it was the Republicans. And they got the president they wanted and now here we are with our country in the worst state it's been in since The Great Depression. Can't blame that on the left. Hope all the rightys are happy with their W.
And K2, one of the major differences between the African American community and the Jewish community as far as this issue goes is that most Jews don't have their religious leaders telling them how evil and sinful homosexuals are and using the Bible to justify hatred and scorn. The African American community is deeply homophobic, something that apparently many people were unaware of until this election, judging by the many comments of surprise about that segment of the vote that I have heard and read.

Can we PLEASE get off of this subject. I am convinced that gays aren't pushing for RIGHTS!! They have rights under the Domestic Partnership Act. What they want is acceptance of your way of life. Well, you may as well face the facts. Not everyone accepts your lifestyle. Homosexuality is a sin against nature. Your male organ was made to fit into a FEMALE organ. Your female organ was made to receive a MALE organ. That was the way we were made, that is natural. Anything done to the contrary is UN-NATURAL. You are sinners, you are reprobates, you are twisted and you want the world to be twisted with you. You are now making me angry with the doggone GAY AGENDA. It is "politically correct" but it is not holy. Repent!!!!!!

Dear "Weenie" (what an appropriate moniker you choose for yourself):
Would you have asked Rosa Parks to PLEASE get off this bus? Would you have asked Martin Luther King Jr to PLEASE just stop talking about it? Would you have asked the suffragettes to PLEASE just carrying on in the streets? Would you have asked the Pilgrims to PLEASE just accept the King's version of the church?
I say to the protesters: carry on! Keep fighting injustice and inequality until we are ALL equal under the law. THAT is the principle America was founded on, not one group's flavor of God.
