Two people have died and a total of 7,000 acres -- that's equal to 11 square miles -- have burned as fierce winds force flames across the region's parched landscape. Fires are presently burning above Porter Ranch and in the foothills near Lake View Terrace.

Two smaller fires in Ventura and San Bernardino counties, which began this morning, have been contained, according to fire officials.

Thousands have fled their homes in both fire areas, and new evacuations are expected as the fires continue to grow. Our fire story is here (with a map), pictures here and a few reader photos here.
