Santa Paula fire 75% contained

October 13, 2008 |  9:54 am

A 30-acre oil field fire outside Santa Paula was 75% contained this morning; no homes were threatened.

The blaze on South Mountain broke out overnight and about 200 firefighters from various agencies are fighting the fire. Containment is predicted for 10 a.m.

Some oil facilities on the mountain are threatened, but protective measures are in place, said officials for the Ventura County Fire Department. Winds have been clocked at 20 mph.

Avocado growers nearby have been asked to turn on their irrigation systems to minimize the risk of flames spreading.
