Fighting the fires: exhausting and emotional
After so may shots of firefighters in action, I wanted to show the toll the work takes on them. Here's L.A. firefighter Mike Catalano, his eyes closed after 48 hours on the fire lines, starting with the Marek fire on Monday and ending with the Senson fire last night. He and fellow firefighter, Randy Dyer, on the other side of the rig, come from L.A. City Fire Station 77.
Here's Jeff Powell, an L.A. County firefighter just moments after, despite his fire crew's best efforts to save them, eight homes burned in the Twin Lakes neighborhood of Chatsworth. It was his second day of breathing the heavy, smokey air in the wind-driven fires.
