'Alphabet Killer' who terrorized L.A. stays behind bars
Who is Muharem Kurbegovic? He was behind a reign of terror in L.A. back in 1974, including leaving a bomb at Los Angeles International Airport that killed three people. But he won't be leaving prison anytime soon. According to City News:
Kurbegovic was given a five-year denial by the state Board of Parole Hearings, according to Sandi Gibbons, public information officer of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Kurbegovic was brought to the holding area, but refused to attend the hearing, Gibbons said. Kurbegovic was convicted in 1980 of 25 counts stemming from the airport blast, an attempted bombing at a downtown Los Angeles bus terminal and arsons at the homes of three local officials.
The Times reported that he also was linked to the 1973 firebombings at the homes of two Los Angeles police commissioners and a municipal judge. He was associated with a group called Aliens of America and was called the Alphabet Bomber "because of his scheme to explode bombs at locations alphabetically to spell out Aliens of America 'until our name has been written on the face of this nation with blood,' " The Times reported.
