McCain's SoCal fundraiser: Can he reel in the stars?

Babs probably won't be attending this presidential fundraiser. John McCain is scheduled to be in Century City this week for a gala fundraiser, just a few weeks after Barack Obama's star-studded tour of L.A.'s rich and famous locals. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, that McCain lapel pin is going to cost you:

The Oct. 1 fundraiser is slated for 8:30 p.m. at the elegant Century Plaza Hyatt Regency, a favorite spot for political fundraisers that attract the deep-pocketed Beverly Hills/Los Angeles/Bel Air crowd. (Let's remember, the Democrats love this neighborhood, too: Sen. Barack Obama was just in the same area for his own set of California ATM fundraisers for easy campaign cash.) And they bulk up the bottom line: Tickets to the McCain bash are $1,000 per person; $2,500 if you want the special McCain-Palin lapel pin.

Over at the Huffington Post, Sam Stein notes an irony with McCain heading west: "The event comes two weeks after McCain chided Obama for fundraising in Southern California. "He talked about siding with the people just before he flew off for a fundraiser in Hollywood with Barbra Streisand and his celebrity friends," McCain told a crowd in Ohio. "Let me tell you, my friends, there's no place I'd rather be than right here with the working men and women of Ohio."
