A night at the opera, anyone?

September 7, 2008 |  3:15 pm

Delicious, delightful, del-opera.

Opera L.A.'s got a couple of intriguing productions at the moment. At the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, LA Opera offers "The Fly," based on David Cronenberg's 1986 movie (Jeff Goldblum. Terrifying.). Cronenberg will also direct this premiere.

Also on stage at the Chandler, a new production of Puccini's "Il Trittico," directed by William Friedkin (yes, the same William Friedkin who directed "The Exorcist" and "The French Connection") and Woody Allen, making his opera directorial debut. For more insights on movie directors going high art, see Diane Haithman's report here. And don't miss the photo gallery on opera references from Allen's films. He's always been a fan.
