August 4, 2008 |  2:05 pm
Two people were killed in a multi-vehicle crash today on the northbound 5 Freeway north of Balboa Boulevard in Sylmar, authorities said. The accident occurred about 1:30 p.m. when one of the vehicles was struck from the rear after stopping in the middle of the freeway, said Sgt. Ben Dibene, of the California Highway Patrol. The driver of the vehicle was trying to protect a motorcyclist who had stopped and gotten off his bike, Dibene said.
