Earthquake hasn't disrupted traffic
For people trying to get from point A to point B, the big question is roads and rails. Overall, the quake has not made transportation too much more trying.
Irvine police closed the Bake Parkway connector to Interstate 5 in Irvine, fearing that the overpass might have been damaged. Engineers are on the way to inspect it, said Pam Gorniak, a Caltrans spokeswoman.
Traffic on Orange County’s highway system has not been delayed, she said. In L.A., Raja Mitwasi, chief deputy director of the Caltrans office, said that traffic on the county’s highways was not disrupted. That agency also is inspecting highway bridges and pavement, he said.
“So far, there is nothing visible. We don’t even see minor damage,” Mitwasi said. “Traffic appears to be moving normally. We don’t see any delay.”
And as a precaution, the Metro Red, Blue, Green and Gold lines are running at restricted speeds. Rail delays of up to 15 minutes should be expected.
At LAX, ground radar was knocked out for a few moments but is back in operation, Mike Fegus, a Federal Aviation Administration spokesman, said.
