Happening today: Miracle Mile Art Walk, 'Dark Shadows' Fest
Good morning, readers.
If your reason for steering clear of LACMA's world-class artwork is the admission price, then the Miracle Mile Art Walk should be on your event ticket today. Nearly 20 galleries and museums will participate, and if you mention "Art Walk" at LACMA, you'll get free admission. Don't be shy. Shout it, if you have to.
Free transportation between galleries will be by trolleys -- just look for the balloon-festooned stops along Wilshire. Everything launches at 1 p.m. at Marc Selwyn Fine Art (6222 Wilshire Blvd.). Here is all the info, plus an interactive map of participating venues.
Does the name "Barnabas Collins" mean anything to you? If so, you might remember that reluctant vampire biting his way through "Dark Shadows," an utterly amazing and sometimes insane gothic soap from the late '60s -- or you've seen the show on DVD.
This year, fans of the show will gather for the yearly "Dark Shadows Festival" at the Burbank Airport Marriott. This year will be special, as DS devotees will get to to see Mr. Collins (actor Jonathan Frid) in person (his first convention appearance) as well as actor Johnny Depp, a long-time fan of the show, who will portray the undead Barnabas in an upcoming film. "Dark Shadows" fans -- you have truly come into your own!

I returned from the Dark Shadows Festival about an hour or so ago. It was not like the past Dark Shadows Fesivals in L.A. in years past (my last was around 1992).
I have blogged my complete review.
