Further north, the Telegraph fire near Yosemite has grown to more than 26,000 acres and burned 12 homes. Residents in 500 homes have been evacuated as flames race toward the town of Mariposa.

More school districts cut back bus service to save money, forcing more students to walk or drive.

Acres of Books in Long Beach is closing for good.

A stretch of the San Gabriel River has become a death trap for ducklings.

Walter O'Malley gets inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
