San Pedro's Hotel Cabrillo

A reader shares this photo of the Hotel Cabrillo in San Pedro, still rough around the edges. "My first place of residence in L.A.," she writes. "It comes with a wonderful dive bar on the first floor.  I miss it."

I love the picture and know that corner well. I resent the reference to the "Dive Bar" on the first floor. As a "Godfather's" regular I am offended. It's a great neigbborhood bar with much "local flavor." If that's your definition of "Dive" then I'm glad you moved out of Pedro.

Pedro rocks!

I lived in a hotel like that back in the mid 60s when I was a teenager. Seems to me it was called Hotel California ( Or am I thinking of the song?). There was a restaurant ran by a fellow named Scotty and it might have been called Scotty's. My father was a welder at Todd Shipyards, so when we hit town we found the cheapest place to floppy. Luckily, I got a job at El Taco, which is still there, so my grandchildren say. --Tim in Kentucky

I love San Pedro and I love this part of it where the hotel is. I'm investigating living in this hotel, partly as a social experiment and partly because I'm hoping I can escape the noise of barking dogs in my neighborhood.
