I won primary custody of my two children when they expressed in court their desire to live with me, rather than their father and stepmother. By then my eldest was 13 (of age to have a say) and both were considered in crisis. Teachers expressed that they appeared sad and their grades were plummeting. After living with me, teachers reported a definite change: That they were smiling; making friends; and improving their grades. Now they are both in college; are on the Dean's list; and are in the Honors Program. I can honestly say from experience, comments that same-sex marriage harms children by denying them both a father and a mother are unfair and baseless. If anything, denying marriage to same-sex families is, in fact, what will continue to harm thousands of children such as mine. I am just one of thousands of gay parents claimed to be "harming children".
