Steve Lopez: Scofflaw in Congress?
As the Times reported last week, U.S. Rep. Laura Richardson (D-Long Beach) disputed reports regarding the foreclosure auction of her house in Sacramento, saying she had renegotiated the terms of the loan.
Now the Daily Breeze is reporting Richardson has defaulted eight times on three properties since 2004, partly due to having diverted private resources into her campaign last year.
Are you out there, Rep. Richardson?
Give me a call.
If you're a scofflaw, there may be a way to put a positive spin on it.
You could argue that Congress certainly didn't need another millionaire.
Or you could claim you missed loan payments out of empathy with those who've fallen on hard times.
Meanwhile, I'm checking to see if you're current on your Times subscription.

Steve, if she calls can you ask her how she arranged to pay less than $1,000 bucks in annual property tax when it should have been up in the $6,000 range? Can you ask her exactly what she did during the "olympic trials" she misleadingly touts on her election website? Can you ask her what other property she owns directly or otherwise, in the United States, and how much total debt on these properties?
I think we've scratched just the surface of the surface here. Can you ask her what she did exactly in China, and when? And what her role at Xerox was? Is there any proof she actually did work there? And who is this Kinde Durkee exactly, Laura's campaign "treasurer"? Can you ask her who this "Daniel Richardson" fellow is that appears on title on her props in Sacramento, and if he owns a real estate company that is not licensed properly with the state? And how come he didn't seem to receive a notice of default on a property he seemed to own with her. And how come the lenders approved 2nd home, 3rd home, etc... with her crushing debts? And how come she isn't giving Wamu permission to talk about her little situation?
Can you ask her if all those Union volunteers that got her elected before are feeling really stupid now? 35% of 9% of her district's voters voted for her last time. These people really didn't know her. Some of them know her now, and I hear they don't like her very much.

Ask her if you can
. Were she looking for quick money from R.E. market? if so, does she think serving the public is not the right business for her?
. How she think she still can qualify to manage and serve the public, if she failed to manage her own?
. Will she resign?

She has been caught lying. The issue is no longer about financial troubles.
Second, she isn't answering questions. The MSM is giving her a free pass in this regard.
