L.A. County jury duty phone lines out of order until May 19

May 7, 2008 |  1:34 pm

That's right, a teensy electrical fire that damaged the toll-free phone lines means big headaches for jurors trying to find out about the status of their service. The Daily Breeze has the scoop:

That means people trying to call 800-SRV-JURY to register, postpone service or ask questions about jury duty might get a busy signal. Although repair crews started working early Wednesday, it will be Monday, May 19, before telephone service is fully restored.

Jurors are advised to call back (ummm, why, if the lines are down until May 19?) or visit the Superior Court's website, www.lasuperiorcourt.org, for general jury information.

Finally, a better excuse for jury duty confusion than "My dog ate the summons."

This is not a joke since some of us actually have to change locations if we can't postpone -- now they're not even letting parents with kids older than 5 who are the sole caregivers escape jury duty, and that's not an excuse, how does the kid get to school and home and do homework? 'A nightmare all around. Meanwhile, we've got Eric Garcetti proudly touting his jury duty in Council -- he's getting paid, has no kids, and it's easier than taking crap from constituents every day. For him, an excuse to ignore the angry citizenry for a while. AND he gets P R points. NOT us single moms.
