Do this today: Eat a cupcake

10:00 AM, May 18, 2008

Good morning, readers.

The contestants are well-armed. The gloves are off.

Bags of flour and sugar, cartons of eggs, tins of baking powder and towers of butter sticks are at the ready. Today is the L.A. Cupcake Challenge and only one of L.A.'s 15 premier cupcakeries can win. But you'll get to taste.

Categories include: traditional (chocolate, vanilla and red velvet), original (anything goes) and overall. A dozen wines will be available to cleanse your palate. The event will be in Hollywood from 1-4 p.m. and will be quite delicious.

Also check out The Guide's Cupcake Map for more important cupcake-related data.

I went yesterday and posted photos to my blog. It was SOOOO much fun, and also incredibly sickening. I'm ONLY eating fruits and vegetable for lunch today.

Some of the cupcakes were really really creative, like the mandarin orange one with pistachio frosting, topped with coconut and a maraschino cherry. Or the chocolate cupcake with beer-caramel sauce drizzled on top. It was so hard to vote for favorites.

too many cupcakes not enough room in the stomach.... very creative... and much tastier than Sprinkles... I loved Leyna's strawberry baby cakes the most.. My choice for best overall cupcake.
