An icon turns 80

It's 80 years old, our Los Angeles City Hall, its concrete mixed with sand from each of the state's 58 counties, and with water from each of its 21 missions. Home to Superman (and Clark Kent and Lois Lane) when it doubled as The Daily Planet, blown up in "War of the Worlds", it's a marvel of engineering. For decades it was, by law, the tallest building in downtown LA. Walk inside and you'll see it's still among the loveliest.

It is great architecture and a great building visible from all of Downtown. Here's to the next 80 years!
