GOP - the next generation
Republicans in California have managed to win only four of 24 possible statewide elections since 1994, haven't made many inroads among Latinos, will lose their leading light when Arnold Schwarzenegger gets termed out of office in three years, and to top it off, fundraising is down. Now, worried that on top of all that, the party's image leans too far right, a group of GOP faithful is planning a rehab, Phil Willon reports.
Led in part by former Gov. Pete Wilson and two major political donors from Orange County, a group of moderate Republicans will announce Wednesday a new organization focused on recruiting the "next generation" of GOP candidates for statewide office, including governor and the U.S. Senate.
The organization, called California Republicans Aligned for Tomorrow, was created to turn around the GOP's dismal record in those contests since 1994.
They're making the announcement tomorrow. At a lively rally? No. A jazzy party? No. They're spreading the news in a statewide phone call. Phil's full story is here.

I await for the day when California Republicans can promote and practice public policy that goes beyond race bating and pandering to white California's worst fears.
Of course the great irony in this story is that Pete Wilson, the one-time moderate Republican who needed to attack Latinos to be re-elected, is leading this cause.
