Drop that avocado!

1:42 PM, April 18, 2008

AvocadosThe fruit that hangs on backyard trees across Southern California often goes to rot. But few, if any, of the avocados on the old tree behind Eric Nakamura's home go to waste. So, he was not happy and a bit puzzled as to why the tree was bearing less fruit this year.

Then his neighbor provided the answer. Nakamura's gardener took them ... by the box load.  Nakumura had never complained about the bald spots in the lawn. But this was too much for him to ignore. His response.

I don't know why you are participating in this irrelevant and embarrassing situation. It is completely unethical for the LA Times to take this one-sided topic and bring unfair attention to a family who was not asked to defend themselves. I'm not saying that stealing avocados is right, but shame on you LA Times. And shame on Nakamura for wasting his own time getting angry, taking photos, uploading, typing mean-spirited things, and publishing it all. This should be strictly between him and his gardener. Pathetic.
