Do this today: Cherry Blossom Festival in Monterey Park

April 19, 2008 | 10:11 am

Good morning, readers.

There may be a chill in the air, but there is an outdoor event today you won't want to miss. According to The Guide, today and tomorrow mark the 11th annual Cherry Blossom Festival in Monterey Park -- a celebration of Asian culture that features martial arts demos (there are photos of Sumo wrestlers on the website), bands performing, Taiko drumming, dancing and delicious treats to eat. All weekend.

And, of course, as Angelenos know, the best L.A. Chinese food is found in the San Gabriel Valley. So if the chill holds today, I suggest a stop at Little Fat Sheep after tromping around the festival for awhile. Order the transcendentally satisfying Chinese hot pot soup with seafood and dumplings. And the green onion pancake. Enjoy!
