Coachella flying pig has a rough landing

7:35 AM | April 30, 2008

When_pigs_fly They found it, Roger Waters' enormous inflatable 'capitalist' pig, found it in two tattered pieces in La Quinta, in a country club, of all places. It floated away during Waters' set at Coachella on Sunday, and festival organizers offered a $10,000 reward and festival tickets for life for its return. The Desert Sun in Palm Springs tells what happened next:

Sadly, now it looks more like pulled pork: crumpled heaps of shredded, spray-painted plastic.

The flyaway pig story grabbed headlines on news sites and music blogs around the country.

As reported Tuesday at mydesert.com, two Hideaway couples each discovered a half of the deflated pig the morning after its ill-fated journey through the desert sky.

Fold said  it initially drifted as far north as Highway 111 before blowing back south as it ascended.

The two couples who found the pig will split the finders fee. No word on plans for a replacement porker just yet. Full story (and video and pix and the fact that one of the people who found the pig was wearing a Pink Floyd T-shirt a the time) right here.

My hands swolled up like two balloons.....

Really? Has no one noticed that a millionaire, at Coachella of all places, offered $10,000 ($10,000!!) for an inflatable symbol of the evils of capitalism? What's next? McDonald's inflatable cow promoting veganism? Wal-Mart's anti-globalization canary?

Agreed with virtua one here, and once you finsh with that, do the same with "Dark Side of the Moon" (784 weeks on the Billboard 200 can't all be wrong--that's 15 YEARS, people!) and then"The Wall".

These yunguns need some rock history to figure out how their modern artists (if you want to call that lack of talent that) got to be what they are.

Pink Floyd flew again, and kudos to Waters for bringing back the pig. The band may be done, but the legacy lives on.

> How out of touch is Mike Graf? You're confusing muslims with those of jewish faith

Neither group eats pork, one because it's not kosher the other because it's not halal.

That said, I have no idea what, if any, point you two were trying to make over that, I just don't like to see people posting incorrect things, which means I should probably log off now.

My husband went to a Floyd concert in Philadelphia and remembers the pig (circa 1987) it was a really good album we both enjoy it and the pig was a big hit. Wish I was there.lol

The "Animals" pig (the one shot on the album cover I believe) got loose and was spotted by airliners ... way back in the 1970s.

If you're implying that Barack Obama is a Muslim, wrong again.
And yes, muslims do have a restriction in the eating of pork, but in this case your comment is misplaced.

Sometimes, if you don't know anything about the subject at hand, it's best to not say anything. You'll look much smarter to those around you.

I'm sure Roger Waters will accuse Homeland Security of slaughtering his pig...

Mike Graf - Obama is not a muslim. For God's sake, pull your head out of your ass and your face away from Fox News and read something other than the gossip pages.

There is no shelter from pigs on the wing.

Meet the New Boss, same as the Old Boss.

He is more equal than I and he says -

"War is Peace
Freedom is Slavery
Ignorance is Strength

and introducing our new party slogan...

[drumroll please]

Poverty is Wealth"

No, I won't get fooled again (especially not by Pigs on the wing)!

ha ha charade you are....

I hear Barak loves pork sandwiches and I'm pretty sure Barak Obama is a Christian.

Gerald Clough, Laramie WY

Actually, Muslims are forbidden to eat pork, too. But the egregious bit of Mr. Graf's note is that he implies Sen. Obama is Muslim. It's funny: the guy spends a few weeks getting beaten up over comments made by a (Christian) preacher, and there are still members of the ignoramoshere who think he's Muslim.

And to think we have an election looming. It's scary.

Suffering from a common cold, it is very difficult to pronounce Pigg Floyd. Does Roger The Loger have a socialist pig that might fly since the capitalist pig has run aground? On the other hand, a socialist pig wouldn't fly either as socialists don't work for a living.

Dear Brian and Mike,

While your comments are appreciated, your (younger) age is showing slightly. That's okay. Just listen to (and LISTEN to, not google, not digg, not wiki, not twitter) Pink Floyd's ENTIRE album "ANIMALS", and read George Orwell's book "Animal Farm", and you will understand the giant inflatable pig. KNOWLEDGE IS POWER (read George Orwell's "1984" for that one).

How out of touch is Mike Graf? You're confusing muslims with those of jewish faith, the pig was not launched, it's not Hollywood it's Palm springs, and it's more stupid not stupider!

How out of touch is Hollywood in the first place? To launch a pig to show
support for a Muslim! They just get dumber and stupider everyday.

A pig named Floyd?
