Water (and power) torture

3:44 PM | March 25, 2008

After three hours of debate, the Los Angeles City Council decided not to decide about a proposed package of DWP rate hikes that has local neighborhood councils up in arms. The Times' David Zahniser was there:

The delay immediately drew an unhappy response from Department of Water and Power General Manager H. David Nahai, who warned that Angelenos will experience more hot-weather power outages unless the rates go up.

"Every day that infrastructure is getting worse, and we have another summer around the corner," he said.

Another meeting -- and perhaps a decision -- next week.

The West is in a drought. California gets to use all sorts of water while we in Colorado (who are providing the water for a large part) have to endure watering every other day, stiff fines and low-water gardens so you can all have your water to wash down driveways and wash cars. The water supply is getting low, and teaching California to use wisely by hitting pockets always seems to work well. It is an enviornmental issue. PS- I am a Cali native.

H. David Nahai wants to riise the rates again and we will not get better service. It is always some story to rise the rate and once the rate is rised the service stays the same. We are in a recession and we are being tax too death.

He should cancel the breast feeding classes since you get the same classes in your health insurance. The rate payers are paying for the haealth insurance and anyhing else we can be stuck with.

I'm glad the Episcopal Church, or at least half of it, is moving forward not backwards towards acceptance and growth.

- Righteous???, on the church's move toward ending a de facto ban on the ordination of gay bishops and sanctioning marriage blessings for same-sex couples
