Greetings from Baja, the water's fine
In just a third of the time it took the sharks that came before it, the great white that was released from the Monterey Bay Aquarium last year has made it all the way to the tip of Baja California.
The shark, a young male caught off the coast of Ventura last year and exhibited by the aquarium for 162 days, was set free on Feb. 5. Researchers have affixed two tags to its tail. One logs travel info like location, depth and water temps and is programmed to detach itself from the shark on July 2. The second tag tracks the shark via satellite each time it breaks the water's surface, and reports to the aquarium every two days.
You can follow the shark on an updated map of its movements and via a data link. Lots more from our own outdoor guru, Pete Thomas.
