Rough road ahead for Inland Empire RV makers
The RV and camper business is built on selling Americans on the idea of a cheap and fun outdoor adventure. But with sales stalled and red ink gushing, there is little joy in the business that has a major presence in the Inland Empire.
Major employers, such as Fleetwood Enterprises, National RV, and Thor California have cut back operations, shut down factories and laid off workers. There is no relief in sight reports the Riverside Press-Enterprise.
"I think people's perception of the economy is certainly down," said Tom Powell, chief executive of Pacific Coachworks. "And there are concerns out there far greater than gas for our buyers. These things are distracting people from doing what they want to do, like take their family camping."
