Subway gate crashers

February 29, 2008 |  2:26 pm

So, the MTA thinks that installing gates at subway and train station entrances will cut down on fare skipping? (Daily News, Bottleneck Blog) Well, many transit users simply view gates and turnstiles as just another challenge to overcome. We, of course, are not advocating that you gate-hop. But, if you are so inclined, you might as well study up on your opponent. Read about turnstile history, courtesy of Wikipedia, or browse about the history of fare control on New York subways.

Now, if you have the stomach for it, here is a look back at the most desperate of fare cheats: token suckers.
