Rough weather for O.C. Great Balloon

February 22, 2008 |  4:14 pm

Gpballoon_jl6yifnc_2 A balloon thrill ride in the O.C. is under investigation for allegedly flying in high winds, low visibility and — hey, it's a thrill ride — thunderstorms.

The city of Irvine isn't laughing, though. The alleged "cavalier disregard" for FAA rules by the owner of the Orange County Great Park prompted the city to promise to hire an investigator to check things out. The FAA is also going to sneak a peek.

No word whether these inquiries will take place aloft or safely on terra firma.

Just the latest in a never-ending cascade of scandals connected to Larry Agran. Six years, $100 million spent, and all they have is a balloon that makes illegal flights.

Meanwhile, Agran funnels Great Park contracts to political cronies.

We'll have more about this February 25 when the Irvine Tattler goes live. Be sure to visit www.irvinetattler.com.
