A wild bobcat in the Hollywood Hills

We tend forget that a mountain range runs right through our fair city. Here, in a kind of grainy, sort of shaky, much-too-brief video, is a lovely reminder.
--Veronique de Turenne

I've seen a bobcat once while riding my bike in Franklin Canyon park. It was about 5:30 am and the sun wasn't out yet. We just saw it scamper across the road back into the bushes. Glad it wasn't a mountain lion!

talk about a non-story. Below is a list from the Yahoo AP list..
Try shorter lines about interesting topics to draws readers in.
FYI there are no non-wild bobcats out there. And my neighborhood
gossip list-serve has these videos almost every month.

Ditto with previous comment. NON-News, maybe the Times is taking lessons from the Orange County Register. Next they will be reporting that Wild Birds were seen flying in the skys over LA.

How cool. And yes, there are non-wild bobcats living out their lives in wildlife rescue centers all over California. That's why it's good news to see this guy running wild.

Its good to see good news too!
Nice to see a bobcat running wild.
There will be bad news always, i'm afraid.
There has been loads of bad news in the press, so don't complain about 1% good news.

Agreed.
The other day while driving through the park, I saw a squirrel! No video, but I'll try harder to get some next time.

Last time I checked, this blog was called LA Now. Not Chad now or Palestine now. LA Times has blogs that cover news from around the world you can check them out on the right, but because you're all in such a rush to post your negative comments (about a video of bobcats, no less) that you find it difficult to read the banners of the blogs -- here's a list of the LA Times national and international blogs -- for world news Babylon and Beyond and La Plaza and national news -- Top of the Ticket.
Or here's a thought, you could go read the actual paper.
Blog on, girl! Thanks for reminding the LA people that there's nature in their fair metropolis. And not just gunfire like the tragedy in Baldwin Park -- I'm sorry your coverage of that didn't satisfy your blood-thirsty critics.

My girlfriend and I have seen bobcats twice in the last year in Hollywood. One in Griffith Park and one on the trail above Deep Dell. Also one in the hills above Point Magu. I guess that makes three!

Pita,
The LA Times covers a variety of topics, INCLUDING those of local interest.
If you don't like the bobcat, click on the articles pertaining to your interests(which obvously include: rockets, Iraqi election law and death).
Have fun.

I'm always happy to hear about interesting local things that aren't crimes. There are already too many boring stories about people getting killed in the middle east. What's news about that? And yes I did major in international relations but there is more to life than other people's problems.

I was with a friend last week when we saw a bobcat right off Beverly Glen (off Mullholland Drive) in the dark. We were driving and looking to take some footage of wild coyotes and deer up there. We put out food and park a ways back to watch in total silence and film. It was the first night we saw and heard wild coyotes in a pack fighting something which gave us the idea to get footage as well as curiousity. Since then, every night last week we brought the food which did not get eaten at all. To our surprise in the distance with the binoculars I saw a large bobcat! We set the camera up with a flashlight across from the food and film. Since the coyotes and the fight, we haven't seen or heard any since then, however, the bobcat, uninterested in the food we put out is there with out fail and cruises around the streets. We got footage of him briefly and what an interesting find! Far more exciting than the deer or coyotes, this cat doesn't seem to approach the van or the food! I think he counts on us to bring it since the only thing that has eaten it since the coyotes dissappeared is the mice. Now we return just to see him! What is more amazing is to see pets dogs and cats outdoors in the wee hours of the morning! I want to go door to door and tell these people about what is out there at night, you think they would take better care! Some people don't deserve animals! They pretty much wouldn't appreciate my news I'm sure, but I may put up some signs tomorrow if this happens again! Then I may just find myself rescueing or stealing these little innocents! What should I do? This footage was very exciting! I am glad this wasn't a mountain lion! I would have called the news if that were the case! Still, this guy was beautiful orangey, white and black spots and stripes! Fearless as ever! Any advice on what I should or shouldn't do? My friend wants to see if the big cat will react to catnip! Maybe he would roll and roll like he's lost his mind! I too am curious to see this...until tonight...?????
