California homes account for 9 out of 10 of the nation's most-searched-for dwellings

August 31, 2009 |  1:38 pm

The Top 10 national list of most-searched-for homes last week at Realtor.com among those within 20% of the median list price of $219,300 included nine California homes. Some of the Southern California homes from the previous week's list remained, plus two different Southland properties: At No. 7 was a Simi Valley home and at No. 10 was a Los Angeles listing.  The Moreno Valley (No. 2), Rosemead (No. 3), West Covina (No. 4) and North Hollywood (No. 9) listings returned at those rankings.

2321_Pine_Street The only home outside California to make the list was the No. 1 most-searched-for home, a two-story built in 2005 with five bedrooms and 4 1/2 bathrooms in 2,840 square feet. The Orlando, Fla. home is listed at $180,000.

The No. 7 Simi Valley home, listed at $257,900, has four bedrooms and two bathrooms in 1,304 square feet. It was built in 1964 and is bank owned.

SoCal homes among most popular searches nationwide

August 25, 2009 |  3:17 pm

Moreno Valley

Southern California houses accounted for half the Top 10 list of the most searched-for homes in the country on Realtor.com last week among homes within 20% of the national median price of $219,900.

At the No. 2 spot was a two-story, unfinished home in Rosemead that's up for auction. The Mediterranean is listed at $250,000 and has four bedrooms and four bathrooms in 2,456 square feet.

At No. 3 was a two-story in Moreno Valley that was built in 2005. It has five bedrooms and three bathrooms in  2,922 square feet and is listed at $185,000.

No. 4 was a 1951 single-story in West Covina listed at $250,000. There are four bedrooms and two bathrooms in 1,444 square feet.

Also making the Top 10 were homes in North Hollywood at No. 8 --  three bedrooms, two bathrooms, 1,689 square feet and a swimming pool, listed at $190,000 -- and San Diego at No. 10 -- five bedrooms, 3 1/2 bathrooms in 2,300 square feet, new construction, listed at $180,000.

Some weeks no California homes or just one or two make this national list. Not sure why there's so much interest in our neck of the woods.

$249,000 Panorama City property among most popular online searches nationwide

July 28, 2009 |  1:41 pm

Panoramacity A Panorama City house was the seventh-most searched home in the country on Realtor.com last week among those looking for homes within 20% of the national median price of $220,000.

The three-bedroom, two-bathroom house at 8746 Wakefield Ave., Panorama City, is priced at $249,000 and has hardwood floors and a swimming pool.

So what can you get elsewhere in the country at about the same price?

Making the No. 2-most-searched-for spot on the list was a four-bedroom, 2 1/2-bathroom, two-story of 2,571 square feet, priced at $250,000, in Orlando, Fla. The 2006 home is apparently considered a "tudor" in that neck of the woods.

The No. 3 home, in Boulder, Colo., caught my interest. Listed at $213,900, it has four bedrooms and four bathrooms in 2,304 square feet and sits on 3.5 acres. Oh, you probably can't get up there half the year and the listing does says "needs TLC." But, still, those views ...
