Hot Property: Milwaukee Brewers' Jason Kendall sells Manhattan Beach home

July 13, 2009 |  3:02 pm

Kendall

Two weeks ago we had Milwaukee Brewer outfielder Ryan Braun buying in Malibu; this week it's catcher Jason Kendall selling in Manhattan Beach for $5.45 million.

The Mediterranean-style house, in the “hill section” of the beach community, has five bedrooms and seven bathrooms in 7,398 square feet.

Kendall, 35, purchased the two-story house for $3.32 million in 2000, the year it was built. Between then and joining the Brewers, he played for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Oakland Athletics and Chicago Cubs.

The property came on the market in September at $7.3 million, was withdrawn at the end of April and was relisted in June at $6.3 million. Regardless of the pricing, he bought long ago enough to turn a profit.

And, yes, there are more photos at latimes.com.

Based on Case-Schiller averages, this sales price isn't that far above historical averages. C-S indicates the price should be about $5.1m, so the buyer overpaid by roughly 300k. Of course, prices are due to decline even more, so that 300k over-price differential is going to increase, at least in the shorter term.

That house is very pedestrian in style. I mean, couldn't they have purchased some light fixtures that were a little more upscale? The fixtures in the photos look as if they came out of a Lamps Plus store. A multi~milllion dollar house should have a little more style than that. Yes, even in Manhattan Beach.
