Adam Schiff, you are to be congratulated. Thanks for saying No.
David Dreier, you are to be un-elected. You voted yes on this bailout, and I will not be voting for you!

Thank you Peter. Is the title of this bill correct on this link?
Posted by: anonymous | September 29, 2008 at 12:07 PM
Pete - awesome Thanks, really.
You are blogging now!

Laura Richardson - AYE - no surprise.
Jane Harman - do the right thing next time. NO BAIL-OUTS.

Wow! My Congresswoman and Hillary Clinton superdelegate Diana Watson (D-Los Angeles) went against corporate shill Waxman and stood up for the people (did my calls and faxes help)?
oooo, sweet American-brand pseudo-Democracy...don't fell us now....
Posted by: the problemwithcaring | September 29, 2008 at 12:16 PM
Interesting. My rep and the reps for the cities surrounding me all voted "NO". Looks like they DO listen to the calls and emails of the people they represent!
Posted by: Jackie Romulo | September 29, 2008 at 12:16 PM
Brad Sherman you are the man. I'll be making my first contribution to a Democrat.

For all you anti-bailout haters out there I hope you are happy now because you won't be for long. It is not enough to be against something, you need answers as well.
You might feel good with your anger directed at this package but that is not going to help the financial system function. In the end public money will have to bail out the system it will just be at a much worse time, costing more, and after a lot more people lose their jobs and their savings.
What a joke. You are going to get what you deserve.
THere are plenty of problems that need to be addressed about how we have gotten to this place and the problems in wall-street are on top of the list. That shouldn't have stopped us from doing the right thing, the difficult thing and keeping the system afloat.
The amount of ignorance on this blog these days is astounding. I miss the old days when it was arguing that real estate prices weren't coming down. I guess we won't need to worry about that argument anymore.

I will be sending a thank you note to Schiff - we should commend these folks to give them strength when this resurfaces. And resurface it will....

Peter Viles,
I read 9 opposed and the rest in favor for the CA delegation.
Could you remove Yuppie's lists...it was nice of him/her to post but it's too long and you already have a link to it.

Basically this is the house members bowing to the will of the majority of the American people and saying directly to Wall Street: "F U"
Posted by: LieDetector | September 29, 2008 at 12:43 PM
It doesn't add up? You wrote "29 in favor, 24 opposed"
Republican Voting yes (10)
Republicans voting no (9)
Democrats voting yes (19)
It's missing the Democrats that voted no.

I am embarrassed to live in the SANTA CLARITA VALLEY AND HAVE BUCK McKEON R(?)-25 vote yes. How can he show his face? He must be crapping his pants now that it failed.
Posted by: desmo | September 29, 2008 at 12:44 PM
All the Congresspeople in my area seem to have voted for this thing. I can't say I'm surprised.

I thought this was funny...
"So many people are searching for the economic relief bill that GovTrack can't handle it. Neither can the House of Representative's own website, for that matter. Take a break and come back later when the world cools off!"

Paulson failed his bosses @ Goldman, wonder if he'll go out Soprano style
Posted by: JamesW | September 29, 2008 at 12:58 PM
The bill was killed by swing district voters. In safe (or, in CA, gerrymandered) districts the vote was about 50-50. 17% of Repubs, and 28% of Dems, in vulnerable districts voted for the bill. The rest listened to their constituents.
I've got a REM song stuck in my head -- It's the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine. Lots of equity in my home, paid off car, little use of credit for business, self-employed, job slightly reverse-correlated to housing prices.

From the brink of disaster, our noe-voting hero's and heroine's prevail. Ironically, each of whom represent my current City and County of residence, (or) that of my family or that of my paternal grandparents and great grandparents: (Lee and Stark, D's-Alameda County), Schiff (D-Pasadena) and Giffords (D-Tucson-Sonoita, AZ). In the lead, as always, Congresswoman Lee, right on the war first and right again today.

Jeff S is right - this isn't something to celebrate
Posted by: J | September 29, 2008 at 01:09 PM
Jeff S - wow, lots of bitterness there. And yet, you offer absolutely NO explanation of why the bailout would any way avert the economic downturn that we are ALREADY HAVING?
Face it, banks will not lend more $$ just because you take their bad debts away from them. They are done with funny money lending - clearing those books will not further encourage it.
And you're lumping all of the financial institutions together. There are MANY banks and credit unions who behaved responsibly and ARE still lending to CREDITWORTHY people and businesses.
You bought the Bush and Paulson story hook, line and sinker. We're facing a downturn because of a ridiculous credit bubble. The bailout would have done NOTHING to solve that.

Ed Royce voted NO. He is getting my vote!!! Pete is there a list of people who initially voted YES then changed their vote to NO. I'd like to see who jumped on the bandwagon just because it looked like the bill was not going to pass.
Thanks for all your good work Pete!
