An apology to Hemet and Desert Hot Springs
Reader Dean Gray writes that I owe an apology to Desert Hot Springs for my earlier snarky comment that it's impossible to sell a house out there right now. He's right, I do owe an apology.
I wrote, in a post about Ed McMahon's troubles, "If you want to sell a house ... and it is not located in Hemet or Desert Hot Springs, you can sell it." That was an unnecessary, and untrue, comment, and I apologize to both Desert Hot Springs and Hemet.
You all know the point I was trying to make -- some of the remote inland housing markets are really struggling right now. But every city or town has its attractions, whether it's family, a job, peace and quiet or the way the sun sets over the mountains.
Your thoughts? Comments? Feel free to attack the blogger, but let's lay off Hemet and Desert Hot Springs today, OK?

Idea: Maybe we can create a little brother for the blog.. like:
http://angrylalandians.blogspot.com/
If anyone has a really violent reaction to a post, they can react over there without upsetting our bliss here.
Doubt it will get used, but thought I might try it anyway. Let's see how ugly people can get and still stay recognizably human.

Some of the comments are tough to take given the effort underway to transform this city. The truth be told, come back in a year and see if we have accomplished our goal. The city is not desperate. The current mood is determined. The problems have been identified and we are going after them. In the mean time, if you come to California for the weather, you are not going to find much better weather than in Desert Hot Springs. And we have water - it comes out of the ground from one aquifer as odor-free mineral water at 160 degrees. We use that to heat our spas you read about. Another aquifer produces cool water that is delievered to our taps better-tasting than even bottled water with several international taste test awards. Every home in the city has a view of the city lights in the valley below (squint past the current challenged city street-scapes until we replace them starting October). For our residents, every street will be repaved this year. And in a lesson learned from an old bankruptcy, we have a balanced budget and an AA credit rating. Thanks to the holder of this blog for your kind thoughts and attention. You have an open invitation to our city anytime (bring your swim trunks). Please just give me a call. Best Regards to All.

Russ, thanks for such positive comments. I've live in this beautiful little town for 13 yrs. and look forward to someday retiring here. Our city is now being run as it ought to have for at least the last 20 yrs. But the past is just that, PAST. Let it go naysayers! We are going to survive and ultimately THRIVE and will welcome even those who have disparaged us.

Update on last week's shoot-out between the bad boys
and the Sheriff's Deputies in Desert Hot Springs:
only two of the three bad boys will be in court this
week; the third has died of his wounds. The two
surviving bad boys will now face murder charges
for the third bad boy's death as they are now charged
with firing on the deputies.
And, each week-end at once upon a time, I would
ride my bicycle the 14-mile round trip to either Blondie's,
The Sidewinder or the Spa Hotel Restaurant for breakfast. At my age, I'm just not brave enough
to be in some police video these days.

Unfortunately there was a police shoot out in Desert Hot Springs a couple weeks ago. A couple of months ago there was a police shoot out in the wealthy city of Palm Desert a few miles away. Apparently there has never been a police shoot out in LA or anywhere else in California, maybe even in the United States. Duh! This unrelenting focus on a bad incident in one small city has done much to expose the vicious narrow-minded economic bigotry and real estate snobbishness of the Illuminati that prefer the distraction of political smear than the honest truth. Desert Hot Springs is a city with various attractions. In one year every street in the city will be repaved. The beginnings of an impressive downtown revitalization are now taking shape to use millions to dramatically alter the downtown core. Critics may complain, naysayers may doubt. In the end the work speaks for itself and that is what defines success.
