I didn't go looking for expensive gas this morning, it found me, on Lincoln Boulevard in Santa Monica. What does it have to do with housing and the economy? Not much if you live in Manhattan and take the subway to work. A lot of you live in Southern California and drive everywhere.
As always, send your best housing, real estate, foreclosure and random photos to Your Scene at LATimes.com.

I am working as a car designer for one of the big 3 here in so cal. As I am working on future SUV models I can tell you guys that as long as there will be narrow minded, proud XL SUV customers, Ford GM and Chrysler will keep on produce them to steal its competitor's market share. This is reality. Gas going up to 7$ a gallon is the only way we, designers, will be asked to concentrate on a much gas efficient car design. It all start from the customer, the big car industry will only do the minimum to what look politically correct to the public. A basic USA made 3 doors sedan has a hard time making more than 25mpg while a VW polo in Germany was already doing 55mpg 15 year ago, It is not a coincident if European car company make the best engineered and efficient cars, they are forced by a 9$ per gallon.
