Update #2: The Riordan Malibu beach house

Malibu looking serene beach side next to the Pacific oceanAn update on Sunday's item reporting that Nancy Daly Riordan, the estranged wife of former L.A. Mayor Richard Riordan, had  sold a Malibu beach house for an estimated $68 million.

The enterprising RealEstalker blog reports that the sale has hit a snag, and the prospective buyers "got cold feet and walked away."

On Friday, March 7, the L.A. Times published the following correction: "FOR THE RECORD: Daly Riordan property: The March 2 Hot Property column in the Real Estate section reported that Nancy Daly Riordan's house on Carbon Beach had sold for a Malibu record-breaking price of $68 million. In fact, the house has not been sold. The story also reported that the home has more than 200 feet of beach frontage. Property records indicate it has 180 feet of beach frontage."

A housekeeping note: In the comment thread on the initial item, a number of readers chose to make a few unkind comments about Ms. Riordan's appearance.  In response, another reader pointed out Ms. Riordan is battling pancreatic cancer.

Out of respect, I chose to remove the comments. Let's try to keep the conversation to real estate, and keep it focused. Thanks.

Hit a "snag?"

How about the fact that Canadians thought it was in CANADIAN Dollars???

Oh, wait... they're pretty much on par with the American Dollar now huh?

;)

maybe the potential buyer saw taxpayers walking on 'his' beach! shocking. Times should keep up stories on beach access. enjoy!

Maybe we chose to get nasty with Mrs. Riordan because we are tired of the LA Times' Marie Antoinette stories about how rich people are in LA. We know your boss only enjoy Calendar section stories but give us a break already, we are on the Titanic here, keep it real !!!!!!!!

Mean is mean. If we can't stay human during our meltdown, we got a problem, houston.

I don't necessarily agree that The Times is so one sided when it come to their real estate coverage.. While Marie Antoinette would probably be comfortable living in Mrs. Reardon's ocean front castle, the fact the U.S.S. L.A. hasn't sunk completely is due in part to luxury home sales.

Thank you for removing my snarky comment Peter. I felt really bad for making it after I read that that Mrs. Riordan may be ill.

I still feel the same about a $68 million dollar house though...

MAMA always has the best info at RealEstaker. Its a weekly must read for me. The poor guy needs a pat on the back just for trying to keep up with all of Ellen Degeneris real estate activity!!!
For those of you who haven't read it RealEastalker is like the LA Times "Hot Properties" on steroids....
