Nick Flynn's story comes to screens, with Robert De Niro [video]

November 28, 2011 |  9:12 am

Nick Flynn's memoir of growing up in Boston with a difficult father is coming to screens, with Robert De Niro playing his dad and Paul Dano playing Flynn. The movie was co-written by Flynn and Paul Weitz, the latter of whom is also its director. That's a pretty high-profile lineup, but fans of Flynn's book will have to pay close attention to find the film.

That's because the 2004 memoir from Flynn, who is also a poet, is called "Another ... Night in ... City," a title that's not quite family-friendly enough for print, or for screens. As a film, it will be called something much more headline-friendly: "Being Flynn."

Flynn's father, a con man whose purported talents include being a genius author, was largely absent as he was growing up. While working as a counselor at a homeless shelter, with troubles of his own, Flynn came face to face with his father, a client.  The movie, with a soundtrack by Damon Gough (Badly Drawn Boy), will be released in 2012.
