After the company’s bankruptcy, Borders bookstores are having their final going-out-of-business sales. Once those stores close, Borders will disappear from more than 600 retail locations.

But a handful of those stores will be replaced by another bookseller, Books-A-Million.

A deal between the two bookstores that would have had Books-A-Million take over 30 or more Borders leases failed to come together in late July. This week a Books-A-Million bid with the bankruptcy court to acquire 14 leases of former Borders locations was approved.

The deal will mark Birmingham, Ala.-based Books-A-Million’s first moves into New England. The company has 230 retail locations. Publishers Weekly reports that the other Borders-to-Books-A-Million stores will be located in Wisconsin, Iowa, Michigan and South Dakota. In Rapid City, S.D., it will move into a 20,000-square-foot space.

Books-A-Million is to take over the leases beginning Sept. 20.
