Jonathan Safran Foer’s novel ‘Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close’ is coming to the big screen. The film stars Tom Hanks, Sandra Bullock and newcomer Thomas Horn (who was a Teen Jeopardy champ). The story circles around a boy whose father dies in the Sept. 11 attacks on the World Trade center.

‘I wanted to tell a different kind of story,’ Foer told The Times in 2005, ‘one that wasn’t politicized. The book never talks about good or evil, and it never talks about why Sept. 11 happened or how to prevent it -- those are absent from the conversation, even as they take up almost the entirety of the real world’s conversation. They’re part of the story, sure; they have to be. But I don’t think that’s how most people experience it. I think most people just get sad.’

The movie, at least its trailer, seems to be right along those lines. It is slated to be released on Christmas day.
