'The Hunger Games' movie preview [video]
A teaser for "The Hunger Games" previewed at the Video Music Awards on Sunday night. But if you weren't watching MTV for Lady Gaga and Beyoncé's baby bump, don't worry: it's right here.
"The Hunger Games" is a film based on the first book in a trilogy by Suzanne Collins. Oscar nominee Jennifer Lawrence ("Winter's Bone") plays Katniss, the post-apocalyptic heroine. This early trailer shows her racing through a lush forest -- with bow and arrow, imperiled by fire.
As Lawrence told the VMA audience via video, she couldn't attend because "The Hunger Games" is still shooting. In May the actress told Entertainment Weekly, "I knew that as soon as I said yes, my life would change. And I walked around an entire day thinking, 'It's not too late, I could still go back and do indies, I haven't said yes yet, it's not too late.'" She added, "If I had said no, I would regret it every day."
"The Hunger Games" is scheduled for release in March 2012. In an unusual move, before the film had even made it to theaters -- and proved to be a hit or not -- producer Lionsgate announced it would film the sequel, "Catching Fire," tentatively scheduled for November 2013.
