When it was announced Thursday that Jennifer Lawrence would play Katniss, the heroine of Suzanne Collins’ popular young adult dystopia ‘The Hunger Games,’ reactions were mixed.

In our comments, people wondered if Lawrence (who is 20) is too old to play 16-year-old Katniss; if she is too blonde and too pale (Katniss is written with olive skin and dark hair); if she is too curvy (to play a starving teenager).

But none of those doubts were echoed by author Suzanne Collins. ‘Jennifer’s just an incredible actress. So powerful, vulnerable, beautiful, unforgiving and brave,’ she said in a statement. ‘I never thought we’d find somebody this perfect for the role. And I can’t wait for everyone to see her play it.’

Other commenters were, like Collins, looking forward to seeing Lawrence as Katniss. Tatianna noted that Lawrence hails from Kentucky, the same region as Katniss.

Billy Ray wrote ‘The Hunger Games’ script; the film is being directed by Gary Ross (‘Seasbiscuit’). There is talk that the rest of the series -- ‘Catching Fire’ and ‘Mockingjay’ -- will also be adapted for the screen.
