Many e-reader owners have found that one is not enough, according to a new study. Why? Because, they say, one family member’s got it and won’t give it up.

The study included more than 1,600 tablet and e-reader owners; just 16% own two or more of the devices, but of those, almost half said that they needed more than just one device to meet the demand. Our tech blog reports:

46% said that a single tablet would not suffice because their partner or children were constantly hogging it. 21% more told research group YouGov that they were given the second device as a gift; 17% of respondents said they picked it up because it featured newly released technology. Among tablet users, 18% are thinking about buying another device, mostly so there would be more to go around for grabby family members.
